1940 Census

The 1940 US Census Records have recently been released and I was able to locate my great-grandfather, Gregorio Mannino. The twist on this record is that his name is listed as "Viola Mannini". I know it is him. His wife is Jennie and children are Anthony, Jimmy, Angelo, and Michael.  They live at 37 Starr Street.  I had heard from my Uncle Joe that his name was Viola - but this is the first record that I have found that shows it.  My next step is to search ship records with the name Viola. Perhaps the ship record on the previous post is not him. Im not sure if his first name is Viola and his middle name is Gregorio, or vice versa - or does he have an alias?

Another interesting thing about the 1940 census is that the birthplace of Anthony is listed as Iowa.  Could he have gone to Iowa first? Is that where he married my great-grandmother?

Below is part of the record - zoomed in so the names are readable. Viola Mannini is on line 9.  Location shows 37 Starr Street as the address.

Another interesting detail about this record is that a supplemental question was asked of Michael, son who was age 12 at the time. It is asking the birthplace of his father and mother. I am wondering if he was the one who spoke with the census worker. perhaps there was a language barrier and he was the interpreter.
